Stephen Colameco, MD, M.Ed., FASAM
Dr. Colameco has had over 20 years of experience in addiction medicine. First certified by the American Society of Addiction Medicine in 1987, he has been honored by the Society with the designation "Fellow"; in 2003, he was one of 219 physicians recognized as a Fellow for their contributions to the field. Also, he is certified by the American Board of Addiction Medicine.
Dr. Colameco has been prescribing Suboxone ® for opiate dependence since this medication first became available in 2002. He has published articles on buprenorphine (Suboxone®) treatment in peer reviewed journals.
Dr. Colameco has served as a medical director fo an inpatient addiction treatment program, family medicine residency director, health system medical director, and as an addiction specialist for inpatient and partial hospitalization psychiatric treatment programs. He is a member of the national faculty for Core Content Review of Family Practice writing questions and case discussions on topics related to addiction and psychiatric disorders. He has held academic appointments at a number of area medical school and is currently an assistant clinical professor, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey- School of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Colameco lectured on topics of addiction and chronic pain at physician continuing education meetings. In 2009, he served as one of three physicians on the NJ Division of Mental Health Services/Division of Addiction Medicine Task Force for on Co-occurring Disorders.
