Daniel Jeffrey Zimmerman, M.D.
Dr. Daniel Zimmerman served as a medical corpsman during the Vietnam War. His experience treating wounded servicemen provided motivation to become a physician. After the war, he attended William Patterson College where he majored in biology and graduated with high honors. He attended medical school at the State University of New York. After completing three years of internal medicine training, he entered the field of emergency medicine—and subsequently became board certified in that specialty.
After working many years in emergency departments, Dr. Zimmerman became increasingly concerned about the lack of effective services for many patients with addiction. Time and time again, he saw the same patients returning to emergency departments for pain treatment. Often, these patients had problems with addiction and other psychiatric conditions. As a result, Dr. Zimmerman became interested in the relationship between addiction, anxiety, mood disorders and physical symptoms. He has a special interest in bipolar (manic-depressive) disorders. Dr. Zimmerman is licensed to prescribe Suboxone for the treatment of opiate addiction. Dr. Zimmerman is certified by the American Society of Addiction Medicine and the American Board of Addiction Medicine. He and his wife, Maria, enjoy ballroom dancing, skiing and travel.
