Twelve-Steps for Those Afflicted with Chronic Pain:  A Guide to Recovery from Emotional and Spiritual Suffering

In this 186 page book, Dr. Colameco outlines a 12-Step recovery program for chronic pain sufferers.  Although modern medicine can offer a great deal to reduce physical pain, it has much less to offer for the emotional suffering that so often accompanies illness. Opiate medications dull physical pain, but they can also numb feelings and delay treatment of emotional pain. No one can escape aging, illness, or pain-- these are part of life. However, we can change how we experience life's events and how we react to them. All to often, chronic pain leads to isolation, resentment, and self- pity-- negative feelings that add immeasurably to suffering. The 12 step approach presented in this book helps patients overcome negative feelings. Each chapter of this book includes inspirational readings and self-help exercises. Anyone can benefit from reading this book, but Dr. Colameco recommends active involvement in a recovery group.  Many chronic pain patients are already participating in a 12-Step recovery program such as AA, NA, AlAnon, NarAnon, Addictions Victorious or ACOA; this book will help them "work their program."  The book can be purchased at Amazon.com (search word string = Colameco Twelve Step Pain).
